Principal's Message

Hani Nur

Dear Tukwila Families,

It is with gratitude that I introduce myself as the new Principal of Tukwila Elementary and join your community of the “Best and the Brightest.” The upcoming 2022-2023 will be my 9th year in education. During my educational career, I have worked in multiple roles, paraeducator, ELL Specialist, Kindergarten teacher, Fourth Grade Teacher, Reading Interventionist, and Social Emotional Interventionist/Principal intern. I began my teaching career here at Tukwila Elementary as a student
teacher. To be back here nine years later as a principal is an incredibly surreal experience.

However, being an educator is not my only title. I am the eldest daughter of a family of nine and a mother to my 5-year-old son. Although I am transitioning out of the classroom, being a teacher will always be the most significant role that will follow me regardless of where I land. I love to read anything I can get my hands on. I sincerely believe if we foster a love for literacy in our students from a young age, it will open up a world of endless opportunities.

My WHY
I became an instructional leader because I believe all students can succeed and achieve high expectations when we intentionally give them the right tools. Alongside that, I know that all educators, through the
intentional use of culturally responsive and equitable practices, can help students make significant gains. Through intentional social-emotional practices, we begin to build the foundation for a high-functioning
and rigorous learning environment. Thus, I see Tukwila Elementary's vision as cultivating a safe, welcoming, and emotionally fulfilling environment that promotes a space where students and staff can learn and grow.

As the saying goes, “it takes a village to raise a child.” As parents, you know your child best, so we welcome your input and collaboration. I want to leave you with a final saying, “When one of us succeeds, we all succeed.” I wholeheartedly believe in this phrase. Success is multi-layered; we all stand to gain tremendous success with intentionality, collaborative effort, and a positive attitude.

To close, here’s to an incredible rigor-filled year that we, “The Best and Brightest,” will not just attain but exceed the expectations we set for ourselves, our students, and our families! I invite you to come by and say Hi. To share your vision and expectations, and in partnership, we will have an incredibly successful school year together!
